The Coronavirus and Wearing Latex Gloves

The Coronavirus and Wearing Latex Gloves

When you drop by a pharmacy in North Carolina, you will see both customers and staff wearing latex gloves to protect themselves from getting contaminated by the COVID-19 virus. But does it really work or does wearing gloves simply give a false sense of security? The answer really depends on the circumstances.

We know that the COVID-19 virus mainly spreads through respiratory droplets when an infected person coughs or sneezes. You can also get infected by touching contaminated surfaces. The virus is also known for adhering well to latex and other types of gloves. If you touch your face at any given point, it won’t matter that you are wearing the highest-quality gloves from our retail pharmacy because you have still exposed yourself to the virus.

Proper handwashing is still the best way to fight against the virus, but if you don’t have immediate access to soap and water or hand sanitizers, gloves can be good temporary protection against infection if you use them properly. What we mean is that in order for gloves to be effective in protecting you from the COVID-19 virus, you have to practice the right way to take them off, as well as, properly disposing of them after every use.

Buying multiple boxes of latex gloves from our independent pharmacy in Huntersville, North Carolina can get pricey. That is why we encourage all our clients at Lakeside Pharmacy to always bring hand sanitizers and small bottles of handwashing soap. Don’t worry, we have all of those in stock. Just drop by so our staff can help you out!
